First drawing of the year. And it's Mike! Erm... a pony... erm... Mike as a pony? Well, that's what he gets for misplacing some of his magical potions and then drinking them by accident.

I've been meaning to draw him as a pony for a while now but never could do it. Now I did. :) I could have done it better, I reckon, but for what I have accomplished -not meaning to brag about myself- it's quite good! I also took this as a chance to introduce Mike's logo/symbol thing. I used it as his cutie mark. I'll probably upload it soon for details. :)

EDIT: Oh, by the way... I have mentioned this in a journal before but just so in case you missed it and is having doubts now that you've seen this drawing I will say it again: Yes. I am a brony. There is no secret in that. I am aware that some of my watchers are not bronies and some are even pony-haters. I'm fine with that and I respect it. The fact that I may draw ponies eventually (like now) or even that I have just drawn my dragon OC as a pony (I "ponified" him, as it is said) does not mean I will switch the focus/theme of my art. It does not mean I will stop drawing dragons or anything that leads to filling up my gallery with ponies. I am a fan, I do like those ponies and I do wish to draw them every once in a while, but I am not THAT much of a fan to switch from dragons to ponies entirely like some other artists have done once they became hooked by the show like I did. I am not going to cease drawing dragons to draw ponies instead. Yes, there will be ponies, but you can expect pony-related content to be rare. Heck, I'm a brony since the show began (that's what? About three years now, right?) and so far I have made only one pony pic. This one pic here is the second. (those other two ponified dragons in my gallery were commissioned works or something. They do not count.) So you see... if I were to ever switch my theme over to My Little Pony, I would have already done it years ago, so if you are not a brony or just dislike ponies, you have no need to hate me or even un-watch me. I understand you probably watched me for my dragon art and I am not changing that anytime soon. Eventually there might be a pony or two here and there, but you can simply ignore those if they are not of your taste! Dragons will keep being my main thing so you don't need to worry about theme changes or whatever. Dragons are still my favorite and my gallery will keep on being draconic territory. My journals and favorites however might have lots of pony stuff, but come on... I like art and ponies and I just have to favorite things I like. That's no different from faving dragon art or whatever, and journals are just words! I like/need to talk sometimes and since I don't really have anybody to chat with on certain things, write them in journals usually suffices this necessity. So again I state: Art-wise, my gallery stays draconic territory. (Also, do not expect to see Mike as a pony again or at least anytime soon. He's not a shape-shifter. -I actually don't like shape-shifting characters. Bleh... it's like they don't know what they are/want to be.-)

Ah, your completed picture! Looks great :D I see you've made him quite tall, with a longer neck than most horses/ponies. Was that intentional to make him look bigger and more dragon-like than other characters or was it just how the drawing came out?

The shading looks really good, I think you over-did it a little with the hair texture on his tail, I kind of prefer the stylised look for that, but still good attention to detail.

Nice bit of humour there, and I like his branding.

Thanks you! ^^

I'd say that's a bit of both, actually. Mostly just how it turned out, I guess, though... ._. Regardless, the fact that it turned out this way keeps the character somewhat more original than just "another ponified something".

Yeah, I realized the fur-like thing I did on the tail and mane doesn't match up very well with the rest of the body. Well, not as a pony, that is. I suppose that's because of the extra bit of shading I used. Works better on him as a dragon as he is for it gives the idea of scales. As a pony, there is no scales. ^^; I either should have left the mane and tail without a fur layer or put a fur layer over the body as well. But then that would take away the proximity with the show's style I tried to keep. In the end I made a pony using a drawing style that should only be used for drawing dragons. XD

Branding? You mean the cutie mark?

Thank you, once more. ^^

Well, it suits, I think, and is not so noticeable that is spoils the picture or anything, I just wondered.

Well maybe he just needs to comb his mane :XD: but yes, just felt it might be a little out of place with the show's style, but still, adds some texture.

Yes. That is what I mean by branding, it just sounds so silly when you say it like that :P

You're welcome, I hope this means we shall be seeing more from you.

Well, shet! I forgot to add the thing I was going to add when I said about reminding about the MLP comics. D'oh! >_<

Reminds me of this bit of one of the MLP comics I'm reading: sta.sh/022fkpa4ry8i They kind of have got a point, there!

How about a stud mark? Stud's a horse-related term after all.

Naah, I like his mane the way it is. All fluffy and stuff. XP I like adding a bit of a texture to give a better impression but this style really doesn't suit surfaces meant to be furry/hairy. Next time I draw a pony, I'm certainly not going to use it. Really, it looks works better as pseudo-scales texture as I usually use it for. Next time I draw a pony I also won't draw the mane/tail fur/hair (I think the word "fur" fits best, but whatever) like I did here. Either I draw fur on the entire body or not a single hair of it and let's be honest... draw that is a pain, to me. XD;; I'll just stick with the shading, but maybe slightly toned down. Something closer to what I use on that Pokémon interactions series, but without the light reflex-effect. We'll see how it turns out next time.

Considering it is a male character who's actually a dragon, I guess it does sound a bit weird, yes. :XD: Especially considering that it is not actually meant to be a cutie mark. Reminds me of this bit of one of the MLP comics I'm reading:  They kind of have got a point, there!

Ooh, you bet it does. :) Like I said on a journal a while ago, I'm working to recover myself from that atrocious lack of motivation with some psychological "tricks" and it's working, so far! :dummy: Slowly, but it is! The next uploads should be (hopefully) the late commission I have in the works since early 2013 and probably a pic with Mike (as himself) I have been thinking about, lately. If I manage to pull that one off it will be a kind of picture I've never drawn before! And by that I mean the content of the picture, of course. Nothing M-rated, of course. Just not quite "friendly" as pics with him usually are. I want to make something that shows his fierce side. :)

I do love this artstyle used on ponies. It looks more... '3d' than the show's style. Good job!
