Here’s my little gift for your friend, Shiff. :3 I hope she likes it! I made it with care.

And here it is! My first official MLP fan art. Partially…

A few days ago Sevilai posted a journal about a friend of hers who has been really down lately and asked if someone could draw her (her friend) something to cheer her up and listed a few things she likes. Amongst these things was dragons, characters of a video game and My Little Pony, most specifically, Princess Luna, her favorite pony. Being I still struggling to fight back against my lack of motivation issue I decided to give this a go and at least try to think of something nice to draw. After gathering a few details about this friend of hers, I came up with an idea and voilà!

Not simply a gift for someone who I don’t even know, this is also my very first MLP fanart and very first time drawing Luna. Well, yeah, I know I did draw ponies a couple times before but honestly… what was it? Two vectors and a ponyfication of Braveheart, wasn’t it? Yeah, I don’t really think these can actually count as fan art, at all.

Details-wise, this work is inspired on the episode “For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils”, more specifically on the dream sequences during the moments Sweetie Belle is running after Princess Luna in her dream. Shiff told me that this friend of hers has a dragon and pony OC. Sadly though, there weren’t many details I could work with since the picture of the dragon that is available is more of a sketch and the pony OC has no image I could use as reference. I went for what was most simple to do: The pony OC. Despite there not having any pic I could use as reference, Shiff was very kind to provide me with a few basics about this pony, such as colors and cutie mark. But then I had this dilemma: How can I represent a character I’ve never seen before in a way that I won’t get the design incorrect? A bit of thought and I quickly reached the conclusion, though. Some logic: Princess Luna, the princess of the night who comes into ponies dreams plus a character I have no visual reference to base myself on… how to make it work? Put the pony OC sleeping in a bed with a blanket on so it covers most of her body and have Luna sitting next to the bed singing her a lullaby. Ta-da! I’m a genius! :dummy: It’s so good to be smart. *brick’d* Oh, and the pony’s name is Flatline, she’s a Pegasus and her cutie mark is a heart monitor, just like the green line on the bed.

Although I am happy with how it turned out, I can’t help but feel a bit bothered by the result. As always, I feel I could have made it much better. What bothers me slightly is the angle of the bed but overall, the shading. I’m still stuck with the old technique of using a combination of the Dodge Tool with the Burn Tool. Though those two served good and produced good results back in the day when I was making pics with much lower resolution than I do now, they are no longer as effective. They still can make a decent enough job now that I draw in large resolutions but the results are not very satisfactory to me. Shading with the old technique don’t look pretty, anymore. Not only I changed resolution but also the way I make the linearts, coloring and some other details. Burn and Dodge Tool don’t work well with how I color, now. Though to be honest, not only I am “stuck” with this old technique but I’m stuck with linearts. I still can’t draw/color anything without them. =\ So shameful. Currently, draw, color, shade and make effects has been like switching from driving/owning a Lada to driving/owning a Lamborghini but keeping the Lada’s wheels and engine in the Lambo. Not sure if my allusion makes much sense to you, though.

Regardless of the flaws in my skills, I made this with care. May not be perfect or as good as I wish it was, but I worked hard to make it. Feedback is greatly appreciated, so please leave a comment!

Oh! And by the way, I’ve recorded EVERYTHING! Yup. While drawing, from the very beginning to the last moment, I have recorded all the progress in making this piece. :dummy: I’d be very happy if you watch at least a couple parts of it. :) You may find it all on the links below. I made each part short and added some cool songs so it don’t get boring to watch. Being short is the reason why there’s 12 parts, by the way. ^^; If I had made each part longer, there would be fewer videos, but they would obviously be longer, as well.

I'm sorry for taking so long to comment, good combination of catching up to work and trying to find the right words hahah

The fact that you even did this is awesome enough, no to mention the fact that you did it so nicely~ You really have been getting a lot better in the shading department man even those wings are just unff~ <3 Not to mention it was cool as hell to watch it being drawn over the past few days. =p I seriously love it myself though, the colors, the softness, everything~And even though it doesn't show much in her comment Kita was super ecstatic about it in real life hahah

If you're unhappy with your recent results, experiment! Try out different techniques and even if they end up terrible it's still experience. :)

Seriously though, thank you for doing this. This is more than I could have ever imagined. <3
